punishment for identity theft?
Ok my wallet got stolen out of my car this past weekend and in the past 10 hours or so ive had about $200 worth of charges on my debit card. turns out a couple of them are marine corps checks that were cashed and i got charged the processing fees. they also took my entire book of cds with about 60 cds or so. so i imagine that alone is another $700 or so. what kind of criminal charges would this person be facing? and does it make it any worse for him that he is a marine. the charges on my card do leave a trail from my town out to the coast at camp lajeune where the marine corps base is
i have already canceled the cards and filed a police report. i have also contested the charges with my bank.
well Im not quite sure, but for what it does to your life it should be jail time and a big fine
Cancel the card for heavens sake. Then go to your bank and contest the charges. About the punishment……they have a hard time prosecuting ID theft. I hope it goes good for you

Well it should be easy to catch the Marine if you know who and where they were cashed. You won’t be charged if you have notified your bank. Call the base and Im pretty sure they will help you find out who the thief is. They don’t want their reputation tarnished. Don’t wait either do it right now or right away in the morning. And they should be punished according to the crime. And if it is a Marine I think they will be doubly punished once form your local gov’t and then from the military. Good Luck!

First, I hope you have put a stop on all cards.
As for penalties that would be up to a judge to decide. it all depends on the types f charges. if they are in fact military then they would possibly face military reprimands.
