… why do we not hear it publicly associated with organized crime like the Mafia et al ?
Are these high risk ventures they will not touch ?
Or are the media remiss in publicising their involvements ?
Common perception seems that those involved in this arena appear specialists in this field only.
Could it be so ?
Because the cyber-criminals are mostly located in the former eastern European colonies of the old Soviet Union. Places like Ukraine and Romania where the laws are weak and the authorities are easily bribed.
And yes they are loosely organized. It’s amazing the malware and the credit card numbers that are openly sold if one knows the correct IRC chat channels to look at.
It does help if one speaks Russian though.
